June 24, 2025 | Dubai, UAE- Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to expand the Burj Khalifa Metro Station project broadly. This major expansion will be a part of the currently underway projects that build a stronger city’s public transportation infrastructure. The intention of the Burj Khalifa Metro Station project is to raise the number of passengers by 65% at the station. It ensures comfort and more effective travel experiences for travellers and tourists in a heavily frequented part of the city.
Boosting Mobility Improvement in A Major City Hotspot
The Burj Khalifa Metro Station is located on the Red Line of the Dubai Metro, serving thousands of commuters every day, notably heavy traffic during rush times, facing the growing number of tourists, residents, and office users utilising the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and nearby destinations. As a result, the RTA has implemented a plan that involves a strategic redesign to improve the Burj Khalifa Metro Station’s platforms, concourse spaces, and station access points.

“This project highlights our responsibility to expand world-class infrastructure that aligns with our strategic motives of creating a smarter and more comfortable transport. As a key area, the Burj Khalifa Metro Station will see strengthened commuter flow and enhanced security through this expansion in the city’s transit network,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA.
Scope of The Expansion Project
The station upgrade is intended to accommodate future demand while guaranteeing safer and more efficient operations.
The following are important components of the expansion project:
- Platforms that are larger to accommodate more passengers
- More exits and entrances to enhance station accessibility
- Concourse and ticketing areas were extended to reduce crowding.
- Updated navigation and signage systems
- Improved access to neighboring sites via pedestrian bridges
The metro service will continue to operate during the construction phase, which is scheduled to start in late 2025. By the middle of 2027, the project should be finished.
A Component of Dubai’s Smart Urban Mobility Vision
As part of Dubai’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes integrated, sustainable, and user-friendly transportation systems, RTA is upgrading this station. The expansion will support Dubai’s environmental and sustainability goals, encourage the use of public transportation, and lessen reliance on private vehicles.

Al Tayer went on to say, “The Burj Khalifa Metro Station is essential to the city’s transportation system.” “We are preparing for future growth and creating a public transport experience that matches Dubai’s global status by increasing its capacity and efficiency.”
Advantages for Business, Tourism, and Sustainability
Shorter wait times, better passenger flow, and easier access to Dubai’s main attractions will result from a 65% increase in capacity. Additionally, by encouraging more locals and visitors to use the metro as their main form of transportation, the expansion will reduce traffic and carbon emissions.
As station accessibility increases, it is anticipated that retailers and hospitality establishments in the Downtown area will see an increase in foot traffic, which will further boost economic activity in the city’s core.

In order to notify the public about construction phases, any temporary changes to access routes, and alternate modes of transportation, RTA intends to start an awareness campaign. The RTA app, website, social media accounts, and on-site digital signage will all be used to inform passengers.
The Roads and Transport Authority is in charge of creating and overseeing Dubai’s transportation network, which includes buses, trams, metros, and marine services. In keeping with Dubai’s future-ready vision, RTA is dedicated to providing safe, intelligent, and sustainable mobility solutions.
