August 26, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: Newcastle and Liverpool intense feud has, once more, escalated to uncontrollable levels after the latest Newcastle vs Liverpool meeting at St James’ Park. Ngumoha’s goal at the 100th minute made it 3-2 to Liverpool, in a super last-minute victory that turned out to be a record for him in the clubs history as the youngest goalscorer ever, having scored at the age of 16 years and 361 days.

The clash happened against the backdrop of a transfer debate that has become quite unhappy that concerns the footballer of Newcastle Alexander Isak, who has been rumored to move to Liverpool for £120 million. This affair turned out to be a new fierce battle not only between these clubs, but also a newly written chapter of the Newcastle vs Liverpool rivalry beyond football quality.

Second-Half Chaos and Fiery Atmosphere Define the Clash

Newcastle fans started the night with high-tension by throwing banners and yelling at Liverpool’s new signing Hugo Ekitike, a player they once targeted. After the reckless challenge of Anthony Gordon on Virgil van Dijk that led to a red card impinged on Newcastle with 10 men, the bad atmosphere escalated. Despite being numerically disadvantaged, the home team staged a magnificent second-half revival.

When the scoring was initiated by Ryan Gravenberch, Liverpool seemed to be holding the reins well, and then at the restart of the game just 30 seconds after, Gravenberch scored his second goal. In response to that, and motivated by deep feelings, Guimaraes and Osula (the latter coming from the bench) leveled the score, setting fans off.

As the rivalry Newcastle vs Liverpool was about to explode, Ngumoha scored very late in stoppage time to put Liverpool back ahead and to guarantee the victory. The game filled with aggressive challenges, debatable decisions, and loud chants was like a spectacle of the never-ending battle that this rivalry is.

Transfer Tensions Spill Onto the Pitch in Newcastle vs Liverpool Match

The undesirable circumstance that shaped this Newcastle vs Liverpool clash was the off-the-pitch drama of the Alexander Isak transfer saga. The attempt of Liverpool to sign the Swedish striker, together with their signing of Ekitike, has made fans of Newcastle angry and caused unrest in the team. The Magpies are asking for £150 million to let Isak go, which is way higher than what the Reds have reportedly offered.

Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan came to see the game and signaled its importance amid the unsteady transfer negotiations. The lads were chanting “Hand him over Newcastle,” and the combination of banners and boos made it tough for the visitors.

Anthony Gordon’s red card only adds to the problem of Newcastle manager Eddie Howe’s selection, as alas, Isak is out of the game and the forward line options are getting fewer. This story of his absence only serves to enrich the narrative that the match is not just about football but a conflict involving club politics and the transfer market.

On the other hand, the result of the Newcastle vs Liverpool masked the defensive weaknesses of Liverpool that have been apparent in their first two games of the current season. Manager Arne Slot was unfortunate to see once more his team giving up a two-goal advantage; this time, Ibrahima Konate was at fault again. A solution, maybe with the help of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, remains a priority.

A Rivalry That Will Run and Run

This extra episode guarantees that the Newcastle vs Liverpool rivalry is amongst the Premier League’s most volatile ones that still persists. Last season, Newcastle had a great time celebrating Carabao Cup success against Liverpool, but this time the Red Devils got the better of them in a last-gasp win. The outcome of the match makes Magpies quite angry and they will have to find a way to solve the Isak issue, while the Reds will be happy with the three points but will probably have some doubts about their defense.

Ngumoha’s winning goal will always be there in people’s minds, yet the main plot – Liverpool’s targeting of Isak and Newcastle’s stubbornness with prices hasn’t gone away and hardly will it end anytime soon. Both teams have a lot of decisions to make before the transfer deadline and their next encounter will be just as explosive.

At the moment, Liverpool walk off winners of this Newcastle vs Liverpool clash, nevertheless, the stuff of legends, like the unresolved Isak saga, are set to go on and get even more intensified as the season progresses.
