January 15, 2026 – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Gulf states’ major diplomatic activities have this week alleviated concerns regarding the possible enlargement of the US and Iran war. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman as a team succeeded in persuading the US President Donald Trump not to resort to any military measures against Iran until now. This situation has provided a platform for debate and has minimized the danger of a direct clash between the two parties.

The recent handling of the massive protests by Iran had greatly escalated the situation in the Middle East during the last few days. The US had warned that if the Iranian government persistent with the harsh measures that led to killings, it might then resort to the use of force. Yet, the chiefs of the Gulf states contended that an attack on Iran would lead to a wider US and Iran war with repercussions for the whole region.

Gulf States Push for Peace in US and Iran war

This week, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman, the Gulf trio, initiated a final-minute diplomatic efforts urging President Trump to “give Iran a chance” to prove its good Intentions prior to taking military actions. One Saudi official ranked high in the hierarchy characterized the negotiations as very serious and high-priority.

The Gulf trio stated that a military attack would bring about the consequences of war between the US and Iran which would involve all the countries in the region. They cautioned that the fighting would cause a lot of turmoil in the region, hurt the economies and invite other powers to join. Their point was unambiguous, that is, the first step should be diplomacy.

In the course of these activities, the US army pulled out some troops from the main air base in Qatar. The employees in the embassies in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait were also advised to be careful during this time of high tension.

Trump Backs Down From Immediate Military Action

President Trump, after listening to the Gulf leaders, decided against going to war with Iran. He rather maintained that he was assured that Iran was not going to kill large numbers of protesters. The president thought that this event gave him the reason to slow down and rethink the use of force option immediately.

The president’s decision calmed down the first phase of the US and Iran war. The experts interpret it as a turn towards less aggressive manner. In the meantime, Trump along with his advisers are concentrating on acquiring more data and enhancing the communication lines.

The conflict in the future, however, is still possible. The military officials in the US have not completely rejected the use of force. They state that the options should be very carefully weighed in order to avoid any unintended results.

Regional Impact and Future Outlook

The primary concern now is to maintain communication. According to diplomats from the Gulf, the negotiations are still partly aimed at trust-building between Iran and the West. Saudi and other officials are optimistic that the reduction in the US and Iran war will be owing to the softer stance taken by both the US and Iran.

So far, Iran has not made any public comments on the Gulf proposal. The last month having seen the possibility of war impacting oil prices and security perceptions worldwide. The unfolding of these diplomatic measures is keenly tracked by many nations.

Some experts emphasize that if the matter of Iran’s nuclear and military activities is not amicably resolved, the tensions might still explode. Others are of the opinion that the current situation can be simply resolved without any casualties and that the conflict can be postponed for years by resorting to negotiations.

Diplomacy Over Force

The intervention in the Gulf illustrates the power that regional players have in affecting the decisions of world powers. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman by asking the US to “give Iran a chance” managed to remove the threat of war between the US and Iran at least for the time being. Their intervention stressed the necessity of dialogue in crisis situations.

Although peace has not been announced yet, the decision to stop military operations has been a significant turning point. Now, the diplomats are trying to build up negotiations and find ways of relaxing the tensions for a longer period. It is possible that these negotiations would lead to no more skirmishes and even more secure relations in the Middle East.
