Birmingham, July 31, 2025: In a significant development in the World Championship of Legends (WCL 2025), the India Champion has officially withdrawn from the semi-final match against the Pakistan Champion. The much-awaited clash was scheduled for Thursday, but now it has been canceled, allowing Pakistan to move directly to the finals. This decision has created a stir among fans in the cricket community and worldwide.

India’s Withdrawal and Its Impact on the Tournament

India’s champion decided not to play the WCL 2025 semi-finals against Pakistan, citing the country’s attitude against any sports engagement with Pakistan after recent political tensions and terrorist attacks. The organizers of the tournament announced that they respect India’s decision to compete and withdraw Pakistan’s readiness. Therefore, the semi-final match between India and Pakistan has been canceled. Pakistan Champions will now face the winner of the second semi-final between South Africa Champions and Australia Champions in the final on Saturday.

India secured their semi-final with an impressive win against the West Indies Champions, completing the run chase in just 13.2 overs on Tuesday. However, with defeats against South Africa, Australia, and England, his visit to the group stages was difficult. His only other match related to Pakistan, which was during the group phase, was already abandoned for India’s refusal to play. The pattern ended the team’s return from the high-profile semi-final slot against its rivals in  WCL 2025.

The return is in line with public statements of several major Indian cricket legends, including Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Harbhajan Singh. These players were reluctant to participate in any cricket match against Pakistan after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack and later on political developments, including Operation Sindor launched by India.

Sponsorship and Public Reactions Surrounding the Decision

One of the leading sponsors of the tournament, Fragrant, deepened the dispute around India’s return, which publicly withdrew its support for the India vs Pakistan semi-final match. ISIATRP co-founder Nishant Pitti said that terrorism and cricket should never be mixed, and the company’s solidarity should not be confirmed with India’s attitude.

The sponsor emphasized that they could not support an incident that tries to promote general relations with a country to support terrorism. This important sponsor’s return put pressure on the decision of the India Champions and underlined the political tension affecting the tournament.

Public announcements of former Indian cricketers increased this spirit, in which many people express that serving the nation and its values was more important than commercial or sports interests. The decision to withdraw the withdrawal shows widespread socio-political conditions that are overseeing the Games, especially the cricket matches are related to India and Pakistan.

Looking Ahead

With India’s tournament exiting the semi-final phase, Pakistan directly moves forward to the WCL 2025 final. The finals will be played against the winner of the semi-finals between South Africa and Australia, which was scheduled on Saturday at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.  WCL 2025 organizers have expressed their respect for the decisions of all parties and emphasized the spirit of the game in motivating positive changes. However, he also highlighted the need to consider public sentiment, which eventually influenced the cancellation of the India vs Pakistan semi-finals.
