The intense climate patterns with extreme heat and humidity across the UAE trigger re-engineering of the main leisure and tourist locations in Dubai, annually. The local entertainment market deliberately evolves from Dubai’s outdoor activities DUBB to indoor during midday when temperatures regularly exceed 44°C. As every year, this year too, this change of season is leading to the closure of several of Dubai’s outdoor attractions this summer, and some of them are ready to shut down completely.

The shutdown period enables significant landscaping and structural improvements, as well as the development of concepts for the upcoming fall re-opening. As a result, residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy one last weekend of Dubai’s outdoor attractions entertainment before the city’s arts and entertainment move entirely indoors where they will be shielded from the heat in climate controlled venues.

Major Landmarks Conclude Record Seasons

The upcoming closures are for a number of multi-million dollar entertainment spots that help drive the city’s winter numbers. Official announcements state that major attractions such as Global Village, Dubai Miracle Garden and Dubai Safari Park will all cease taking visitors after Sunday 31st May. Global Village is wrapping up its historic 30th anniversary with grand finale fireworks displays and special “live” music events.

At the same time, Dubai Miracle Garden is wrapping up its 14th season with the final chance for residents to watch its complex, 150 million-flower show under special entry rates. Dubai Safari Park is also shutting down its large trekking areas, as the animals are being moved into the more enclosed, indoor habitats of the park to safeguard them from the heat of the desert, to protect their varied animal population. These co-ordinated stops allow protection of delicate botanical features and animal environments fully until the cooler breeze of autumn returns.

Switching to Indoor Alternatives

Fortunately, the city has planned out an amazing selection of indoor entertainment options so that the entertainment schedule is never empty. If you can’t get enough of the expansive walking grounds of Global Village, Dubai Sports World at Dubai World Trade Centre will be your next stop as it turns enormous air conditioned halls into running tracks, football pitches and cricket nets.

Families seeking the ultimate in entertainment are moving towards indoor theme parks such as IMG Worlds of Adventure or the massive indoor rainforest park in City Walk called Green Planet. Moreover, it is cultural enthusiasts who are pushing their weekend agendas toward the indoor lifestyle spaces, such as Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz and who are hosting markets, independent cinema shows and high-end artwork galleries in climate-controlled warehouses.

Adapting to Dubai’s Outdoor Attractions

The city offers more specialized summer activities that can handle the heat. If you are a Dubai’s outdoor attractions adventurer who doesn’t like to sit still, the focus of the region’s tourism market changes readily from its distinctive emphasis on the outdoor activities to more focused summer activities.

People are seeking activities that provide them with refreshments or clever protection from the sun, like fast-paced marine adventures, temperature-controlled water parks and late night desert safaris. Water parks such as Aquaventure and Wild Wadi have special night time passes for people to swim after the sun sets.

High speed yacht charters and jet ski rentals in the Dubai Marina is another great choice that can help keep temperatures more comfortable as the sea breeze circulates. Even the old fashion desert tour has changed, taking to the desert by dune bashing and stargazing during the late nights of the desert.

The city offers it all, keeping a strong tourism momentum all year round. It’s just a part of the lifestyle calendar of the city of Dubai, and a temporary halt in Dubai’s outdoor attractions. When these key travel hot spots reopen in the fall, they’ll come back with new concepts and world-class experiences.
