Abu Dhabi, May 19, 2025 – In a bid to revolutionize urban living in the future, Abu Dhabi is set to establish the world’s first AI city, the first city in the world based on artificial intelligence by 2027. Funded with a record $3.3 billion investment, the innovative project seeks to establish Abu Dhabi as a world leader in artificial intelligence and digital innovation. The world’s first AI city in Abu Dhabi is poised to revolutionize the functioning of cities and set a new standard for smart living, economic development, and public services.

The Vision: Building the World’s First AI City in Abu Dhabi

The world’s first AI city in Abu Dhabi is about more than a technological advancement. It is an end-to-end transformation of city operations. The impetus for this project is the government’s 2025–2027 Digital Strategy, with an eye to pushing AI into all areas of urban living. Abu Dhabi is planning to automate 100% of governmental processes and provide more than 2,000 artificial intelligence-driven digital services by 2027.

 World’s First AI City

His Excellency Ahmed Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of the Department of Government Enablement in Abu Dhabi, stated,
“The Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy 2025-2027 reflects our leadership’s vision of being an AI-native government, seamlessly integrating AI across all government systems for a future that is proactive, agile, and fully technology-enabled.”

The world’s first AI city in Abu Dhabi will comprise smart homes, autonomous transportation, and AI-driven solutions for healthcare, learning, and public security. The infrastructure in the world’s first AI city will be designed to accommodate cloud computing, data-driven intelligence, and high-level digital services to simplify and modernize everyday life for all citizens.

Economic and Social Impact: Jobs, Growth, and Innovation

The world’s first AI city in Abu Dhabi is set to deliver tremendous economic and societal advantages. The government estimates that its transformation is going to add AED 24 billion to Abu Dhabi’s GDP by 2027 and generate over 5,000 direct and indirect job opportunities. These employment opportunities will be in areas including AI innovation, digital services, and smart city management, with a view to developing a new generation of high-quality professionals.

World’s First AI City

The world’s first AI city’s artificial intelligence-based strategy will also render public services more efficient and more personal. Citizens won’t have to wait in queues or complete forms for government services anymore. These services will be done automatically by AI for tasks like appointment scheduling, license approvals, and fines management, freeing up time and minimizing mistakes. Well over 200 cutting-edge AI applications will be utilized in all sectors, ranging from transportation and energy to finance and construction.

The world’s first AI city in Abu Dhabi is also expected to draw high-profile global investors and tech firms. Partners with top-tier organizations like Microsoft and G42 will be instrumental in spurring innovation and keeping the city ahead of the curve technologically. The government is being supported by big-ticket funds like the $100 billion MGX Fund and the $300 billion Mubadala Investment Company, earmarking funds to support AI startups and research globally.

A New Standard for Smart Cities

The world’s first AI city in Abu Dhabi is planned to be an exemplar for cities globally. Its emphasis on smart infrastructure, automation, and artificial intelligence-enabled services will provide a city that is resilient, efficient, and inclusive. The “AI for All” initiative of the government will equip and educate citizens to harness artificial intelligence in their everyday lives and ensure that all citizens gain from transforming their city.

World’s First AI City

By 2027, Abu Dhabi will also have a single integrated digital platform for running public services so that residents and businesses, and all concerned government agencies, can interact more easily with each other. The world’s first AI city will have a strong cybersecurity system to safeguard data and ensure that artificial intelligence is being used responsibly and morally.

The leaders of Abu Dhabi believe that the world’s first AI city will do more than enhance life for its citizens, but also set an example for cities all over the world to emulate. With Abu Dhabi rapidly advancing towards its 2027 deadline, everyone will be watching to see how its vision for a futuristic city comes together.

“Abu Dhabi’s AI-native city vision is not just a regional milestone; it’s a global inflection point. The Emirati capital is rewriting the playbook on how economies grow, how governments serve, and how people experience urban life,” said a government spokesperson.

Technology experts agree that the world’s first AI city in Abu Dhabi will set a new benchmark for smart cities worldwide, demonstrating the power of artificial intelligence to drive progress and improve lives.

world's first AI city

The world’s first AI city in Abu Dhabi is a leap into the future. With its emphasis on innovation, efficiency, and equality, Abu Dhabi is paving the way to demonstrate how artificial intelligence is capable of making cities better. Now, as construction gets underway, the world’s first AI city will be a template for cities and nations planning to leverage the power of artificial intelligence to create a smarter and more interconnected world.
