June 6, 2025, UAE- The announcement of the new US visa suspension countries, which has come under Trump’s immigration policy, reflects a huge increase in the US immigration policies. The new policy was signed by former US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, under which citizens of 12 countries have been stopped from entering the US. Its purpose is to strengthen national security and ensure security from “foreign terrorists”. This directive has been released as part of the strict Trump immigration policy that started in early 2025 after Trump became president for the second time.

List of US Visa Suspension Countries in the New Trump Immigration Policy?

Under the latest travel ban, US visa suspension counts are increasing:

  • Afghanistan
  • Myanmar
  • Chad
  • Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Eritrea
  • Haiti
  • Iran
  • Libya
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Yemen

In addition, partial sanctions have been imposed on the citizens of these seven countries:

  • Burundi
  • Cuba
  • Laos
  • Sierra Leone
  • TOGO
  • Turkmenistan
  • Venezuela

Citizens of these countries in America will now be subject to strict control and limited entry.

Why is Trump Immigration Policy Rousing Debate?

Trump said, “We will not allow people to enter our country who want to harm us,” and that is why the list of US Visa Suspension Countries has been expanded. This list can be revised from time to time, and more countries can be included in future security bases. The order will be applicable from EDT at 12:01 am on 9 June 2025. The special thing is that the visas issued before this date will not be cancelled.

During his first term, Trump implemented a similar travel ban, targeting seven Muslim-bound countries. That policy faced many legal challenges, but finally, in 2018, the Supreme Court upheld it. President Joe Biden cancelled that ban in 2021, calling it “a stain on our national discretion”. But now, under Trump’s immigration policy, strict detections seem to return from the latest detailed restrictions, which are being justified based on claims of terrorism and failure in the security cooperation of some countries.

Criteria Behind the US Visa Suspension Countries

According to Trump, he spoke about the countries that have had the strictest sanctions:

  • These have “a large number of attendees of terrorists”
  • These countries do not cooperate on visa security
  • They lack a reliable identity verification system
  • The criminal record system is also weak
  • Visa Overstay cases are also more common in America

He insisted, “We cannot openly allow migration from those countries where the identity and background of the people coming cannot be tested safely and reliably.”

Recent Security Concerns and Global Reactions

Trump immigration policy, citing the attack in a courtyard in Colorado, in which a person threw petrol bombs on a crowd of pro-Israel protesters. The attacker, who was an Egyptian citizen, continued to live in the US despite the end of his visa period, and his work permit was also over. Interestingly, Egypt’s name is not currently included in the list of US Visa Suspension Countries.

Somalia has expressed a desire to cooperate with the US. Somalia’s Ambassador to America, Dahir Hasan Abdi, said that the government of his country is ready to resolve the issue by negotiating with the US. At the same time, Venezuela’s Home Minister Diosdado Cabello has warned its citizens of possible threats from the US, calling the US government fascist.

Impact of US Visa Suspension Countries

The fresh Trump immigration policy on travel ban coincides with Trump’s October 2023 election promise, in which he spoke of banning the journey from Gaza, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, and other countries that he considered to be a threat to security.

  • An executive order was signed on 20 January, in which a thorough investigation of all foreign nationals entering the US was arranged to identify the dangers to national security.
  • Now, a total of 12 countries are completely banned from the list of US Visa Suspension Countries, as well as partial sanctions on 7 countries.
  • This policy is part of widespread strict immigration action, including a prohibition on deportation and admission.
  • Security concerns and recent violent incidents have been reported to support the move.
  • Some affected countries have also given diplomatic or critical responses.
  • The ban will be applicable from 9 June 2025, and the visas issued until then will remain valid.

This policy indicates the continuity of Trump’s strict immigration policy, even though the Biden administration had lifted some restrictions earlier.

Under Trump immigration policy, this update will affect thousands of travelers around the world, and as the administration evaluates the level of risk and cooperation, there may be more changes in the future.
