UAE, June 17th, 2025: Hijri New Year 2025 has brought good news for the residents of the UAE. The government has officially declared a one-day public holiday on Friday, June 27. The decision has been taken by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, which will make a three-day long weekend with Saturday and Sunday. This time will be a great opportunity to relax and spend time with family.

Currently, this holiday applies only to government sector employees. When and how this holiday will be found in the private sector is not yet officially confirmed, but it is expected that the same date will be applied.

UAE Public Holidays Remaining in 2025, Including Hijri New Year 2025

According to proposal number 27, 2024 of the UAE cabinet, there are a total of 12 public holidays, including Hijri New Year 2025, for both public and private sectors every year in the country. There are three official holidays left for the year 2025:

  • Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year 2025) – Friday, 27 June
    • The first month of the Islamic calendar, the first day of Muharram, is given a day off to celebrate the Hijri New Year 2025. This date will be determined by the official committee to see the moon, which will see the rise of the Chandramandal of Muharram.
  • Birthday of Nabi Mohammed (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) – Friday, 5 September
    • This festival is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi ul Awal. The exact date will be decided only after the announcement of the official committee watching the moon.
  • UAE National Day- Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-3 December
    • There will be a two-day holiday to celebrate the UAE National Day, which will provide a comfortable opportunity in the middle of the week, and the establishment of the country will be celebrated.

UAE public leave policies

Hijri New Year 2025 public holiday in UAE is on June 27.

According to the rules of the UAE cabinet, all other government holidays except Eid can be shifted to the beginning or end of the week, provided that the cabinet decides. If a holiday falls on the weekend or matches with another holiday, it will not be transferred to the next day – that is, it will not be extended forward. Apart from this, the local government has the right to declare additional holidays for their departments or institutions for any special occasion or special reasons, even if they do not celebrate holidays annually.
