Dubai, June 2, 2025: Major updates to UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules have arrived in 2025, bringing important changes for the large Indian community living in the UAE. These updates intend to make passport formation safer, quicker, and easier for all. If you live in the UAE as an Indian, the new UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules for UAE residents can have a direct bearing on you. Here is what every Indian expat in the UAE should know about the new laws and procedures.

E-Passports and Digital Security

The Indian government now issues e-passports with RFID containing your photo, fingerprints, and digital signature. E-passports are international standards; they make travel smooth for UAE Indian expats. So you do not have to request an e-passport; in fact, if you are applying for a new one or a renewal, it will be issued automatically, provided the concerned local office has the proper infrastructure to support issuance under the new UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules.

Benefits for UAE Indian expats under the new UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules:

  • Faster immigration checks at airports
  • Stronger protection of personal data
  • Better global acceptance and fewer travel problems

Another big change in the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules is that the home address will not be printed on the last page of your passport anymore. Instead, the address is stored digitally and linked with a QR code. A government official can provide access to this information only, protecting your privacy as a UAE Indian expat.

Important Rule Updates for UAE Indian Expats

The new UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules for UAE residents also include changes to documentation and family details. Here are the main points to remember:

Big Changes for UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules in 2025
  • No marriage certificate needed:
No doubt, UAE Indian expats find it easier to update their passports after marriage. The reason: there is no need to show a registered marriage certificate anymore. Both must sign a simple joint affidavit called Annexure J at the Indian Consulate in the UAE, as per the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules.
  • Surname changes for women:
Women can also use this form to register their surname change after marriage, easing the procedure for many UAE Indian expats under the new UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules.
  • Removing or updating a spouse’s name:
To delete or change a spouse’s names on the passport, you must produce a divorce decree, a death certificate, or a new Annexure J for mutual separation, as per the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules.
  • Birth certificate rules:
If born on or after October 1, 2023, one must produce a duly intimation government-issued birth certificate for obtaining a passport, applicable to all UAE Indian expats and their children. Those born before this date can still present alternative documents such as a school certificate, a PAN card, or a voter ID card, according to the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules.
  • Parents’ names removed:
No parents or legal guardians will be named in new passports. Parents from single-parent families and non-traditional households will be happy with this, along with the ease with which UAE Indian expats can apply under the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules.
  • New colour codes:
Passports now have new colours for different groups under the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules:
    • White: Government officials
    • Red: Diplomats
    • Blue: Ordinary Indian citizens (no change for most UAE Indian expats)

More Access and Faster Service

India plans to ease things by increasing the number of POPSKs from 442 to 600 by 2030. This means quicker and more convenient passport services for UAE Indian expats and their families under the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules.

Big Changes for UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules in 2025
  • E-passports are now standard and automatic under the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules
  • No need for a marriage certificate; use Annexure J instead
  • Women can update their surnames easily
  • A birth certificate is required for those born on or after October 1, 2023
  • Parents’ names no longer printed in new passports
  • Address not printed; stored digitally with QR code
  • New colour codes for passport types
  • More passport service centres planned for quicker processing under the UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules

Rarely seen before, this constitutes an extreme change in UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules for UAE residents. The changes allow UAE Indian expats more privacy, less paperwork, and safer traveling. Stay updated and make sure you follow these new UAE Indian Expats Passport Rules when you apply for or renew a passport in the UAE.
